Change just one thing…

This is the message from Scotland’s Food & Drink champions as Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight starts this Sat, 2nd Sept to Sun, 17th Sept 2017 inclusive.

This annual celebration is encouraging everyone this year to change just one thing and support the people who grow, make, cook and sell Scottish Food & Drink.  It could be that you want to feel healthier and the one thing you change this fortnight is to eat more fruit and veg.

To make it easier there’s a daily theme to inspire you to consider changing ‘one thing’ for #onethingfortnight

Gintastic Dad

Perhaps your Dad prefers a gin. With a choice of over 40 artisan gins in store, you’re bound to find one that would tempt his tastebuds. Pair it with a refreshing Fever-Tree Tonic and you’re all set to go.File 12-06-2017, 17 38 32

You could also give him the opportunity to sample many different gins at one of our gin fests in Largs. We’re sure he would be delighted to receive a ticket for either Regatta Gin Fest in August or Geraldo’s Gin Fest in November. A real treat to look forward to!

Sweet tooth Dad

Luxurious handmade chocolates and gift-wrapped confectionery are always a winner for a sweet-toothed Dad. We have a wonderful range of chocolate liqueurs, high quality turkish delight, embossed tins of shortbread and wonderfully moist and delicious whisky cakes.

We hope this helps you find his perfect gift and wish all the Dads out there a wonderful Father’s Day this Sunday.

Fancy joining me tomorrow for a wee dram?

It seems fitting that our very first in-store whisky tasting should be from a barrel supplied to us courtesy of James MacTaggart, Master Craftsman of the Isle of Arran Distillery; a thorough gentleman who travels back and forward between the distillery on Arran and his home in Islay every week.

My love of whisky started with a day trip to the Arran Distillery 8 years ago with my first ever taste of the ‘water of life’ that day, and it happened to be the Lochranza malt.  Most whisky buffs can tell you what their very first dram was and it certainly made an impression on me whilst we sat in the sun outside the visitor centre feeling light headed and blissfully happy.  The conversation was flowing and the whisky definitely helped.  In fact, I would go so far as to say that great conversation starts with great whisky!

What better way for us to celebrate World Whisky Day than to offer you a wee dram of Arran whisky.  From 1pm on Sat, 20th May 2017 allow me to introduce you to this wonderful distillery and a few of their expressions.

It doesn’t matter if you’re new to whisky or a seasoned connoisseur (perhaps we can learn something from each other tomorrow), just pop in to the shop and celebrate the day with me and the rest of the world.

Look forward to seeing you.

Slainte!

Toni

Raise a dram with the world!

Whisky month - Geraldo's window

Whether you are new to whisky or a seasoned connoisseur, the month of May (Whisky Month) is the time to discover, taste and celebrate Scotland’s national drink.  There’s a dram out there to suit everyone!

You are all invited to try ‘the water of life’ throughout the month of May, but in particular on World Whisky Day on 20th May.  Across the globe celebrations will be taking place with the sole aim to make whisky fun, enjoyable and available to everyone.

Only this week, Toni and Alison have become newly qualified Whisky Ambassadors.  After an intense day of training and successfully blind tasting a variety of Scottish malts it would appear they have the ‘nose’ for it.  They were delighted to be presented their awards from Lee Foster of The Whisky Ambassador Training School this week.

Why not pop into the shop to test their knowledge and try something new?  There’s a lovely selection from many independent distilleries across all of the regions.  The long-awaited and newly released Kilkerran 8 YO Cask Strength and 12 YO whiskies are now in stock from Glengyle distillery in Campbeltown.  These lightly peated whiskies are definitely worth the wait and with limited stocks available they won’t be on the shelf very long.

Also, at Largs Food Fest on 27th May, we’ll be giving you the chance to taste the creamy, award-winning Benromach 10 YO and the delicious Atholl Brose Whisky Liqueur.  Jim Irvine of Gordon & Macphail, the world’s leading specialists on malt whisky, will be presenting in the seminar theatre at 5pm in the main marquee.  Not to be missed if you’re a whisky fan.  If you’re a newcomer to Scotland’s favourite tipple this is a perfect introduction from the man himself.

With whisky celebrations across the world, we hope you can come and raise a glass with us during the whisky month of May.

If you only try one new whisky this month why not try something different and:

‘Drink less but drink better!’

Arran magic

Image

Where can you find the perfect malt whisky, mouthwatering handmade chocolates and stunning scenery?  The Isle of Arran of course!  The Geraldo’s team had a fabulous and truly informative day out this week to one of Scotland’s most magical islands and what a day it was!

The Isle of Arran Distillery

After a breezy trip on the ferry, Senior Brand Manager, Louisa Young, accompanied the team to the newly refurbished distillery in Lochranza.  Nestled below the mountains, the distillery is in the ideal location to produce the perfect malt; where the pure water flows into nearby Loch na Davie.  Combine this with Arran’s warm micro-climate, high quality barley and yeast, expertly picked oak casks and patience – up to 18 years of patience – while the wondrous character of the whisky matures.  But as Master Craftsman, James MacTaggart says, “There is no point having good ingredients if you don’t have good people to make it.”  The passion and knowledge that James, Louisa and all of the staff at the distillery have about their whisky is inspiring and it tastes fabulous too. Tours are starting again on Monday, 27th Feb 2017 and definitely worth taking the trip over there to see it.

The Arran Chocolate Factory

We all had a warm glow (could’ve been the whisky) as we travelled back to Brodick; spotting golden eagles, deer and seals en route.  The magic continued as we were welcomed by owner James McLehry, and his senior chocolatier Jan, at The Arran Chocolate Factory.  The sweet aroma hits you as soon as you enter the shop.  Jan, who has been making chocolate there for 15 years, gave us a fabulous demonstration on making Easter eggs and some of their delicious hand-crafted treats.  We also got a sneaky peek at some of her wonderful Easter creations.  Watch this space as these little ducklings are sure to nip over the water to Geraldo’s of Largs soon!

A huge thank you to The Arran Distillery and The Arran Chocolate Factory for hosting our visit.  We all came home much more knowledgeable and enthused about Arran’s warming malts, delicious chocolates and wonderful people.

The Arran Whisky range and James of Arran Chocolates are stocked in Geraldo’s of Largs.  Pop in to find out more from one of our team members.  They’ll have lots to tell you!
